Listen to Bob - he's been through it...

Listen to Bob...he's been through it.

It all began when he was 20 years old. One day Bob C. looked in the mirror and noticed his hair was starting to thin. It wasn't, however, until his 30's that Bob realized his hair was really beginning to recede.

Bob's concern over hair loss continued to grow and he began to feel his receding hair line was making him look older than he actually was. This was a problem which plagued Bob since he didn't like conveying an image that really wasn't him.

Over the next several years Bob thought a lot about his receding hairline and began reading literature on hair loss. Ultimately, he decided to try a hair piece but was unhappy with the results. Contrary to the advertisements he had seen, Bob felt very self-conscious wearing the weave and actually became more introverted during the time he wore the hair piece.

"It got to the point I wouldn't look people in the eye because I was afraid they were trying to look at the hair piece," says Bob. Shortly thereafter, Bob stopped wearing the hairpiece and decided as a gift for his 40th birthday he would do something about it.

"I see this as an investment in my career", says Bob, who believes that in today's more competitive work environment, you need to look and feel as good as you can about yourself.

After going to half a dozen other groups, Bob decided he wanted his treatment done by the Connecticut Hair and Transplant Group. He says he chose CHTG because it was local and he was very impressed with the work of their doctor.

In addition, Bob was comforted by the availability of the staff and their openness to his questions.

During his consultation, Bob says he was diagnosed as suffering from male pattern baldness, a condition two of his three brothers are now beginning to experience as well. It was also determined that the thickness of his hair and skin-hair contrast made him a perfect candidate for transplant surgery.

During the consultation, Bob emphasized that his number one priority was to have the transplant look natural. If it wasn't going to look natural, he wouldn't have the surgery. Bob thought he would have to have a scalp reduction in addition to the transplant surgery and was happy when he found out it wasn't necessary for the results he wanted.

"They were very good at managing my expectations," says Bob, "They definitely met my expectations and didn't oversell at all." Bob was excited about the prospect once he made the decision to have the surgery. Now, almost a year after his first surgery, Bob is well on his way to having the hair he wanted.

He says he feels like a new person. "This is real, this is my hair," says Bob. "I don't have anything to be ashamed of."

Bob is extremely happy with the results he has gotten, but says he still considers himself a work in progress. He must now wait until September to see how his hair has grown in. If at that time Bob decides he wants more hair, he says he won't hesitate to have a third transplant surgery.
