Our Surgical Procedure

The C.H.T.G. micro incision grafting technique is a relaxed outpatient procedure performed daily at our New Haven or Cromwell Clinics. Within a three to four hour time period, we can transplant anywhere from 500 to 3,000 hairs. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. Sedation is available for those patients who would prefer it. Hairs removed from the donor area (above the ears and around the back of the head) are permanent hairs and will continue to grow in their new location. They are transplanted in either micro graft (one or two hair) or mini graft (three to five hair) sizes. The graft size and location vary in each individual, depending on hair type and desired result. While relaxing in a sitting position, the patient can view a movie, read a book, or listen to music through headphones if desired. Our caring surgical assistants will make sure the procedure is comfortable and well tolerated.

Once the grafts are transplanted, the patient's hair is washed and post-op instructions reviewed prior to sending the patient home. Our post- operative instructions state clearly day to day care and when followed correctly, ensure that the patient can return to a normal, active schedule quickly without evidence of any surgical procedure. Two to three months after the procedure, the patient will begin to notice growth from every transplanted hair. The grafts will continue to grow about one-half inch per month for the rest of the patient's life.
